ringo atelier
some inspirational art projects and art project books from ringo atelier, brainchild of the lovely french webshop little circus. even if you don't use their imagery, i think the site sparks all sorts of simple ideas on imaginative making, akin to the anti-coloring book, one of my childhood faves...
a bit of explanation, clockwise from top left: fill in storyboard, make garland out of muffin cups, finish this family portrait, cut out and glue pastilles in pattern or string on garland, make a mask like from this Irving Penn portrait (and photograph yourself in it?), inspiring mask book by Mitsumasa Anno

how i see without glasses
my (fairly) new camera has been misbehaving lately, and taking pictures like these. through frustrated by the faulty technology, i also find pleasantly myself attracted to certain blurry pictures. likely because their viewpoint is so oddly familiar. as a kid i didn't realize that trees had individual leaves-- i thought them a swath of green on a (blurry) stripe of brown. and now when i take out my contacts ("are you taking your eyes out?" the little one says), i look at faces and see dark orbs where eyes should be.
some coveted art supplies
there are very few art supplies i have a special allegiance to... these two in particular i love most everything about them. the pentel marker set has an awesome array of colors and a very handy (esp. with children) storage 'book' that is a very findable yellow. also, the utility sketchbook by the pentalic corporation, which sadly seems no longer to have this great yellow watercolor paper cover (replaced instead with a photograph of a manhole...ugh)... despite the latter's no-frills name, it is a supremely awesome sketchbook. it is perfect bound, the paper quality is incredible, with no bleed-through. the cover (at least the yellow one) is thick and withstands lots of beating, and the pages can be removed cleanly if need be. and it just *feels perfect*. as one website puts it: "looks and handles like a thick telephone book with a soft cover"
